The Literacy Toolkit is a training series consisting of a progressive sequence of interactive webinars focused on expanding the instructional interventions used to promote the literacy achievement of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Presentations in the training series will focus on how to plan and implement instructional interventions based on student learning needs and evidenced-based assessments (norm-referenced, criterion-referenced, and progress monitoring). Instructional delivery "techniques" and implementation "tips and tricks" will be discussed. Additionally, a set of intervention resources, materials, weblinks, and e-learning applications will be assembled for each topic to assist with implementation.

Access all of the sessions at https://pattanliteracysymposium22.sched.com/ The purpose of this session is to describe how to use instructional routines to enhance the delivery of your core reading instruction in a multi-tiered system of Tier 1 and Tier 2 support. Systematic strategies and teaching routines designed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of reading instruction in kindergarten, first, and second grade will be described and will be directly relevant to practitioners implementing multi-tiered systems and response to intervention models.

This session presents a study examining the effectiveness, implementation, and acceptability of an explicit, systematic mathematics vocabulary intervention implemented by teachers. Thirty secondary students with learning difficulties and disabilities were randomly assigned to treatment and control conditions. Results indicate the intervention was effective, feasible, and acceptable. Future research in different settings and including measures to assess maintenance are needed. (Grades 6 - 12)

The Core Leadership Team (CLT) is essential in establishing a foundation for collaboration within any school setting. Through commitment, reflection and shared decision-making, the CLT sets the tone for program-wide PBIS implementation. This session will take a look at one team’s progression over time, including its strengths, challenges and lessons learned.

What do you get when you cross a juggler with a cheerleader? A PBIS Coach, of course! Now more than ever before, early learning providers are faced with the challenge of creating program-wide systems that can effectively support the social emotional needs of all children. Among many other key players, the PBIS Coach plays an important role in supporting program efforts toward meaningful and successful implementation of PBIS practices and strategies in a variety of ways. In this session, we will discuss the various responsibilities of a PBIS coach, including managing data, individual and program level action planning, and overall support for staff, program-wide. We will also take a look at some of the tools and resources available to assist coaches in their efforts to support teachers and teams in their PBIS implementation.

In this session, we will learn methods for leveraging linguistic structure (e.g., morphology, semantics, syntax) to provide direct instruction in academic language to English learners in math. We will learn an evidence-based routine for introducing academic vocabulary. We will also explore how English morphology and syntax can be taught to support English learners' math content learning, vocabulary development, comprehension, and expression. Examples will feature math content from both primary and secondary grade levels.(Grades K - 12)
