Crisis Prevention and Response

School psychologists play an important role in crisis prevention and response. They have training in providing services to promote safe and supportive schools, including social–emotional well-being, mental and behavioral health, and evidence-based strategies for creating safe and supportive schools. School psychologists collaborate with others to promote preventive and responsive services that enhance learning, mental and behavioral health, and psychological and physical safety and implement effective crisis prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.

The PREPaRE curriculum has been developed by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and includes evidence-based resources related to school crisis prevention and response. PREPaRE training is ideal for schools committed to improving and strengthening their school safety and crisis management plans and emergency response, including the mental health interventions provided after a crisis event has occurred in a school community. In Pennsylvania, a number of organizations, including PaTTAN, employ individuals who are trainers of NASP PREPaRE.
