IDEA 2004

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004) ensures that all children with disabilities receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) and that the rights of these children and their parents are protected. It also aligns to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

FERPA

FERPA requires that educational entities implement policies that protect parental rights to inspect and review educational records, seek to amend student records, and consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information from educational records.

Part B Policies and Procedures

Pennsylvania’s Part B Policies and Procedures document meets the mandate of IDEA 2004 that requires each state to submit a plan that provides assurances to the federal government that the State has in effect policies and procedures to meet the requirements of the IDEA 2006 regulations for children with disabilities aged 3 years to 21 years of age.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability and requires that the needs if students with disabilities are met as adequately as the needs of students without disabilities.
