Access all of the sessions at https://pattanliteracysymposium22.sched.com/ Can we improve the reading of students in secondary schools? Absolutely! Begin by bringing this adage to life: “Every day, in every class, we read, we write, we speak. Every day, in every class, we read, we write, we speak.” Next, focus on evidence-based, high-leverage practices: 1) actively teaching vocabulary in all classes, 2) having students respond deeply to text, 3) challenging students to compare and contrast items, and 4) having students read orally (e.g., partner reading, team reading, choral reading, cloze reading) to increase fluency (e.g., accuracy, rate, expression).

Access all of the sessions at https://pattanliteracysymposium22.sched.com/ Read by 4th, the Philadelphia partner of the national Grade Level Reading network, is committed to strengthening literacy instruction in Philadelphia schools….and homes. The research is clear that a good connection between classroom and home is what really helps children learn to read. So Rb4 partners, led by Drexel University and AIM Institute for Learning and Research, developed an interactive workshop for parents of K-3 students, on Early Reading Skills – Phonological Awareness, Phonics and Fluency. Attendees will learn about all aspects of this interactive workshop, and explore how to deliver it in their communities, including how to access the PPT and videos, all activities to be used during the workshop, as well as materials for parents to take home.

19. MTSS for the Middle: Our Journey Implementing T2 and T3-Academic and Behavioral Supports How can we implement MTSS at the secondary level to support our students academically and with behavioral strategies and interventions? Our team will take you through our journey over the last few years. It will start with how we trained our teachers and rolled out a universal screening plan.We set up data meetings focused on reading, math, and behavior/SEL throughout the year to discuss tier 2 and 3 supports.Teachers develop tier 1 goals based on data and meet with teams to refine their practice.

19. We Are All in the Same Framework: SAP and PBIS Integration

08/15/2017
00:44:14 minutes
In this interactive session, participants will explore how Student Assistance Program (SAP) can serve as a vehicle for work at Tier 2 and Tier 3 within a PBIS framework. Integration of each set of practices is an important consideration for teams with fiscal and time constraints. Presenters will describe essential components to consider as teams work toward a seamless system of supports. Participants will leave with a checklist to take back to their schools to improve blending efforts.

2. Systems to Support Classroom PBIS

08/15/2017
00:57:24 minutes
This session will preview a model for developing and implementing systems to support teachers’ implementation of classroom PBIS. Specifically, Dr. Simonsen will discuss critical systems features, describe a decision-making framework to guide implementation of systems features, and share examples of what systems may look like in practice.

20. A Consultative Approach to Providing Integrated Classroom Support | PBIS 2023

Academic skill deficits are related to disruptive behavior in classrooms but are often addressed through parallel systems of tiered support resulting in separate interventions being implemented leaving the causes of both unaddressed. Modifying instructional tasks to match students’ instructional level can decrease off-task behavior. Theoretical and practical approaches to providing integrated classroom support via a consultative model will be reviewed.

Curriculum-based measurement (CBM) created the possibility of assessment-informed instruction which yields one of the largest effect sizes in education. CBM in math, however, has lagged behind reading in research and practice. Recent research in math CBM indicates some key differences in their utility, conventions, and potential for driving decisions in multi-tiered systems of support and response to intervention. This session will detail the why and how-to’s of using mastery measurement CBM in mathematics to drive screening, progress monitoring, and program evaluation decisions in math MTSS. This presentation will be a collaboration among elementary and middle school SWPBIS teams and how they have created both staff and community buy-in to their Tier 1 SWPBIS programs.

2013-2014 Expanding the Literacy Toolkit: Interventions for Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing Vocabulary Toolkit: Teaching Words to Build Comprehension

03/11/2014
02:01:41 minutes
The Literacy Toolkit is a training series consisting of a progressive sequence of interactive webinars focused on expanding the instructional interventions used to promote the literacy achievement of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Presentations in the training series will focus on how to plan and implement instructional interventions based on student learning needs and evidenced-based assessments (norm-referenced, criterion-referenced, and progress monitoring). Instructional delivery “techniques” and implementation “tips and tricks” will be discussed. Additionally, a set of intervention resources, materials, weblinks, and e-learning applications will be assembled for each topic to assist with implementation.
