Secondary Implementation of a Universal Screening Tool (SRSS - IE) and What to Do After the Screening
Session attendees will learn about the Student Risk Screening Scale-IE (SRSS-IE), how we designed an implementation model, the overlap between PBIS and student assistance program with this model, interventions that were utilized, as well as actual case studies uncovered as a result of the universal screener.

Building Blocks of Tier 2: Universal Screeners, Low-Intensity Strategies, and Check-In/Check-Out
Learn about Tier 2 supports including the Student Risk Screening Scale-IE (SRSS-IE) screener to identify students at risk; intervention grids; low-intensity, research-based strategies; and implementation of a Check In Check Out (CICO) program. Discover ways to communicate students’ needs with staff/parents and develop a mentoring program. View data systems that collect and analyze CICO and screening data.

An Urban Implementation Model for PBIS Classroom Supports
In urban implementation, there is a need for classroom-level supports with PBIS but many are challenged with time constraints for supporting individual teachers. District coaches have developed a model that provides individualized support, allows for pre and post classroom management data collection, and requires minimal time.

Accountability requirements under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 2004 (IDEA) regarding secondary transition mandate each state to determine, for the state as a whole, the extent to which students are achieving transition outcomes as stated in their IEPs (Indicator 14). To meet this federal reporting requirement, once over a five-year period, each school district is required to survey all student leavers who had IEPs (graduates, dropouts, and students who age out). This session will provide target LEA´s, special education administrators, and IU transition consultants information regarding the Pennsylvania Post School Outcome Survey (PaPOS) and the requirements for completing the PaPOS Post School Survey.

Despite the increased availability of eye tracking systems and more responsive touchscreens, there are still children for whom scanning is the best selection technique for their needs and skills. The session will cover the decision-making process for scanning, an overview of critical research, as well as the realizations and capabilities of scanning on dedicated systems and mobile-based Apps.

This session concludes the training series on effective writing practices for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Content emphasizes how to make the writing process work by selecting and explicitly teaching novice writers strategies used by expert writers through self-regulated strategy development. Self-regulated strategy development stages of instruction will be presented, and examples of specific writing strategies and mnemonic prompts will be discussed. Overall, the use of writing strategies pulls content presented in the webinar series together because the purpose of strategic writing is to help students develop self-efficacy, ownership of the writing process, and independent use of writing strategies. This training has one PowerPoint handout and one Resource Packet. Three different versions of the PowerPoint Presentation are available below, each with a different number of slides per page. The purpose of this training is to look closely at the key features of ASD and deaf-blindness and consider why children who are deaf-blind might, in some cases, share many of the same features associated with ASD and how vision and hearing loss and other sensory impairments can explain these “autistic-like” features.
