Youth Mental Health First Aid
Description
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is an evidence-based training program designed to equip adults with the skills to recognize, understand, and respond to signs of mental health challenges in youth aged 12-18. The program uses a structured approach, known as ALGEE, which guides participants in assessing risk, listening nonjudgmentally, giving reassurance, and encouraging professional help or self-help strategies. YMHFA emphasizes early intervention and focuses on common mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, substance use, and trauma. By fostering awareness and reducing stigma, YMHFA empowers educators, parents, and community members to support youth effectively, enhancing their well-being and helping them access necessary resources.
