The PaPBS' Coaches Day is specifically designed to support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school-wide and program-wide PBIS coaches. Through participation in PAPBS Coaches' Day, PBIS coaches at all levels will enhance their skills to provide coaching supports to their respective PBIS team(s) for initial and sustained implementation, working toward fidelity. PBIS Coaches will participate in sessions customized to their role (program-wide or school-wide), developmental level(s) of students they serve (early childhood, elementary, secondary) as well as level of coaching experience (ranging from new to experienced).

This session will focus on interconnections between oral language and literacy development across the grades from kindergarten through high school. Topics will include implications for identifying typical development, difference, and disorder using standardized tools followed by curriculum- based language assessment and intervention. Classroom- and curriculum-based approaches for combining general education instruction and special education intervention, with an emphasis on communicating through writing, will be introduced.

Sometimes the most well researched and carefully implemented strategies just don't “stick.” What accounts for disconnect we often see between research and practice? What might make a difference? Over 15 years, 50 national organizations came together to address common challenges through the IDEA Partnership at the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE). This session will focus on an Implementation Debrief. Teams will identify what barriers they encountered and how they resolved those barriers to the implementation of the integrated lesson-planning process and universal instruction using UDL. Team Exemplar/Showcasing will focus on what they have accomplished and implemented during the Fall semester.

This training will provide an overview of built-in accessibility tools, Mac operating system X features, and common productivity tools that can be useful to students with high-incidence disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, learning disabilities). The program will also include discussion and demonstration of third-party tools that are available at low or no-cost to serve the same purposes. Participants will also find the information useful for incorporating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approaches to their instruction and supports.

This training will lead participants through the Team Initiated Problem-Solving (TIPS) model that will help to make Tier 2 meetings more efficient and your intervention systems more effective. We'll briefly cover the meeting foundations and spend the majority of the time discussing critical components such as precision problem statements, goals, decision rules, solution development, and fidelity.

What is meant by the term “college and career readiness” for all students? What are critical components of a three-tiered model of college and career readiness and dropout prevention for all students? How would secondary transition for students with disabilities be integrated into a tiered model? This webinar explores a conceptual approach for preparing all students for post-secondary education/training, employment, and participation in a global society.

This session will cover instructional tips from professionals working with students with VI, deaf or HOH, or deafblind and is based on a compilation of journal articles related to this topic. This session will look at the correlations of physical activities and how they affect a student’s home life. Interviews from parents of students who have VI, are deaf or HOH, or deafblind will be shared. Real-life examples of skill demonstrations and physical activities will be presented. The importance of the team approach in educating the student will be examined along with strategies when working with interpreters or interveners. Participants will have firsthand experience of the physical activities using sensory loss simulation.

Social initiation and communication deicits are hallmarks of autism. Mand training provides a method to teach children to ask for what they want and to initiate interactions with others. This session will discuss the basic principles and procedures of teaching children to make requests. It will include techniques to establish motivation, teach children to approach other people, and to develop a broad range of effective requesting behaviors.
