Resources to Support Families of Infants and Toddlers with Hearing Differences

This training will introduce and review resources for professionals working with families of infants and toddlers with hearing loss, dual-sensory impairment and children with complex needs. Communication in young children who are deaf, hard-of-hearing or Deaf-Blind is one skill that we can help them to cultivate in order to have the most positive outcomes later in life. Developing routines and strategies in order to enhance communication is one way that professionals, caregivers and families can decrease risk and promote positive later outcomes. There will be opportunities for discussion, examples of strategies utilized with families, and direct connections with the Guide By Your Side, Deaf Hard of Hearing Guide Program. 1) Resource handout: ASL stages of development from birth to age 6 and Guide to the ASL Development Observation Record. 2) Resource handout: Early Intervention Communication Plan for young children who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or deaf-blind. 3) Powerpoint presentation: This document has the slides to be followed by attendees during the webinar.

his session will provide participants with an understanding of the Pennsylvania Post School Outcome Survey (PaPOS) and the requirements for implementation. The purpose of PaPOS is to determine, for the state as a whole, the extent to which students are achieving transition outcomes as stated in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This is a required training for LEAs.

The Writing Toolkit for Students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing: Genre, Discipline Specific Writing

In this session, participants continue to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to improve writing instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Phases of genre-specific writing instruction, such as learning about genre, evaluating genre, and writing genre, will be discussed. Because students who are knowledgeable about text structure, recall and write text better than others who aren’t, this session will highlight the importance of making text structure for the genres of narrative, informational/explanatory, and opinion/argumentative writing visually explicit.

State-Required Reclassification, Monitoring and Re-Designation of English Learners - This session will focus on the interpretation and implementation of the PDE State-Required Reclassification, Monitoring and Re-Designation of English Learners (ELs) for the 2017-2018 school year. Participants will also examine how this document will impact the instruction and assessment of English learners. Targeting Progress Monitoring of Language Use for English Learners - This session will focus on effective progress monitoring strategies for English learners, as related to language use. Participants will be able to apply these best practices to their school context. Connecting WIDA Tools to Collecting Evidence for Language Use - This session will demonstrate how to utilize WIDA Tools while collecting evidence for language use in the classroom. Participants will examine the WIDA Tools, as they consider how to embed them into their instruction and assessment practices. 1.
