4A: AAC Devices: Technology to Support Successful Communication

Session Description:
This session will explore evidence-based strategies for implementing AAC to support successful and functional communication across settings. Participants will learn practical approaches for modeling, prompting, and integrating AAC into daily routines to build communicative competence. The session will highlight common barriers to implementation and offer clinical techniques to increase consistency, collaboration, and meaningful use. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to enhance AAC outcomes for diverse communicators.

Objectives:
Identify barriers to (or misconceptions) about AAC introduction and how to overcome or avoid them. 
Participants will identify three unique features of each Smartbox device.
List two best practice strategies in AAC implementation

Speaker Bio:
Alexandra Reiner smilingAlexandra Reiner, M.S. CCC-SLP, is a Speech-Language Pathologist and AAC Consultant with a master’s degree from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. After several years supporting school-aged children as an AAC specialist at a local Intermediate Unit, she joined Talk To Me Technologies in 2025. In her current position, Alexandra helps to assess technology and access methods for clients’ needs during evaluations for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), as well as plays an active role in supporting and training families, caregivers, and other related professionals on AAC implementation and use.
