The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is responsible for ensuring that all special education programs in schools are appropriate and effective. To do this, school districts must submit a Special Education Plan every three years to PDE as required under 22 PA Code 14.104. This training will provide school districts with necessary information to develop and implement required special education plans.

This session supports practitioners in becoming fully aware of the latest policies relevant to supporting students with disabilities in virtual learning environments. Presenters will share considerations and perspectives from the field concerning engaging parents and caregivers to support learning in virtual/hybrid environments. Topics will include how educators can use digital tools and strategies to effectively communicate and collaborate with parents and caregivers, and how you as an educator can empower parents and caregivers to support their child’s virtual/hybrid learning.

This session offers considerations and strategies for closing out the school year, supporting learners and their families in the summer, and planning for the upcoming year. Topics will include collecting accurate data that measures student growth, maintaining student and family engagement in the summer, developing and implementing effective IEPs, and growing professional capacity.

This session supports practitioners in becoming fully aware of the latest policies relevant to supporting students eligible for special education or Section 504 during a pandemic. Legal considerations are conveyed as of the date presented, March 17, 2022. Changes may been made since then.

Overview of four step planning process and the document that supports instructional planning for students with complex needs.

The purpose of this video series is to provide school leaders, teachers, paraprofessionals, families and students information around Natural Peer Supports with the expertise of Dr. Erik Carter. These five video sessions will provide the essential information needed to develop the structures that promote inclusion, learning, and relationships between students with and without disabilities with special focus on students with complex instructional needs. Dr. Carter will describe the evidence base and the necessary components for developing an effective peer support program. These sessions are supported with video documentary of actual peer support programs occurring within Pennsylvania. Each session will guide schools in identifying crucial elements to launch new or continue current efforts in implementing natural peer support programs. This session focuses on addressing helpful starting points and important landmarks for schools committed to encouraging relationships and shared learning among students with and without disabilities.
