This presentation will address the interpretation and use of assessment data for improving outcomes for children in the preschool years. Examples of data from Acadience Reading PreK: PELI will be used to illustrate how assessment data may be used for the purposes of screening, instructional planning, progress monitoring, and evaluating outcomes. Participants will have the opportunity to practice reviewing data for making educational decisions.

The concept of mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors will be used to emphasize the significance of a diverse classroom library. In addition, culturally responsive practices will be identified to increase literacy engagement. Finally, a nuanced analysis of reality pedagogy will offer examples of opportunities for student investment in their own learning.

During this session, presenters will discuss the elements that proved successful for creating a schoolwide positive behavior system in an urban school setting. The school successfully shifted from a consequence based discipline system to proactive teaching with reinforcement of the values and virtues upon which the school’s foundation is based. Celebrations of students’ success replaced emphasis upon restrictive systems.

This session will provide busy educators with instructional planning recipes for ready use within their classroom. Particularly emphasis is placed on harnessing the potential of technology to provide diverse learners in grades 4-12 with opportunities for accessing, participating, and benefiting from standards-based instruction. Participants are encouraged to Bring Their Own Device (BYOD) to maximize their interaction with the digital resources.

Power UP Storybook Reading: Engage in Purposeful and Interactive Read Alouds Interactive reading builds oral language and literacy. Reading aloud to and with children is a powerful and engaging experience that serves a variety of purposes. Story reading fosters language development, story comprehension and literacy skills from preschool through primary grades. Multiple reads of children’s literature develop oral-language skills and cultivate vocabulary development, content knowledge and exposures to the complexities of sentence structures and nuances of language. You will learn strategies to encourage active listening, spark questions, and promote and extend conversations. It is the purposeful talk and reading experiences that can jumpstart the career of a successful reader.

This session will impress upon participants the importance of “effective” staff collaboration and follow-through, administrative support, networking with outside supports and services, and parent involvement.

Staff and family buy-in is a huge part of successful PBIS imlementation. Come learn how PBIS Family Nights, with activities led by teachers, have had a positive effect on the school community. All activities require that parents and students talk and play together as a family unit, so that they can discover the benefits of using our High 5 Expectations at home and in the community.

This session will focus on HOW data are best used to inform instruction. As we all know, collecting data is the easy part. Creating infrastructure and capacity to USE the data to best identify, implement and evaluate instruction is what accelerates student growth. A model for how to use diverse data using a single decision-making process will be presented and discussed. Recent research on the impact of problem-solving teams on student outcomes will also be presented and how those teams

Word Generation: Effective Implementation to Support Academic Vocabulary and Student Discourse This session will explore best practices in vocabulary instruction. Participants will be equipped to utilize the Word Generation materials to support the vocabulary development and discourse skills of all students in grades 4 through 8 through instruction in face-to-face, remote, and hybrid settings.
