This presentation can be used in training interested parties in the SLD Guidelines. Comprehensive training using these materials is available from local intermediate units and PaTTAN.

This presentation examines the use of RtII when used as part of a comprehensive evaluation for students thought to possess Specific Learning Disabilities. Technical adequacy, rate of improvement and the annotated IEP are discussed.

The handout packet in word format contains participant activities and any additional resources related to this session. Paraprofessionals frequently need to handle difficult student behaviors. This session will focus on strategies for dealing with a range of behaviors, recognizing when behaviors may occur, as well as how to prevent challenging behaviors from occurring. Paraprofessionals will be given a variety of effective strategies to use when challenging behaviors do occur.

This session will help participants explore practical evidence-based frameworks of strategies, practices, and resources addressing challenging behaviors in young children. This session will highlight internet-based resources and tools that paraprofessionals can use as part of effective instructional practices. Content will include a brief introduction to accessing the internet as well as specific websites and web tools that can be used to assist instruction of content such as science, reading, writing and social studies.

These areas are: K1: Common concerns of families of individuals with exceptional learning needs, K2: Roles of stakeholders in planning an individualized program, S1: Assist in collecting and providing objective, accurate information to professionals, S2: Collaborate with stakeholders as directed, S3: Foster respectful and beneficial relationships, S4: Participate as directed in conferences as members of the educational team, S5: Function in a manner that demonstrates a positive regard for the distinctions between roles and responsibilities of paraeducators and those of professionals.

The Supplementary Aids and Services (SaS) Toolkit guides teams through steps that lead to the identification of services and supports to enable a student with a disability to learn and succeed within general education classroom settings and consists of five components that are packaged separately to facilitate ease of use. PaTTAN and Intermediate Unit consultants have been trained in the use of these tools, and are available to provide on-site support to IEP teams as they become familiar with the process.
